So by now, many of you have heard about the stooopppiiiddd thing that I did last night -- I ATE A CORN COB! Yeah, I know, not the brightest thing in the world to do, as I now know, given what happened next ... Mom was right on the case and immediately called the emergency vet as she had read that CORN COBS can cause quite a bit of havoc once they are ingested ... The emergency vet confirmed this and said that I should come right in ... I was in the car and on my way to the clinic within ten minutes of the incident ... Once we arrived a very nice doctor looked me over and explained that while I still appeared to be okay, it would only be a matter of time before bad things started to happen as a result of this CORN COB in my gut ... Xrays were taken to confirm the exact location of the COB and a plan for surgery was made ... Mom was very unhappiest ever about all of this and by this time, I was getting a bit grumpy myself ... I was given a bit of a sedative for my xrays because I tried to jump off the table on the first try and would not under any circumstances lie still on my back so that the correct view could be obtained ... The sedative made me very woozy and I was stumbling all over the exam room as a result ... By this time, it was time for Mom to leave ME so that she could go home to wait for the doctor to call and tell her that MY surgery was a success ... Mom was saddest everest when she left ME and I was sad too ... The next thing I knew I was waking up in lots of pain with a strange tube attached to my leg ... The doctor called Mom to let her know that they got the COB out in two large pieces ... She also confirmed that there would have been major problems for me had this stayed put ... Mom was extremely relived when she got the call, although she is still very distraught that this happened in the first place ... Mom came to visit ME this afternoon in the hospital and I wanted so badly to jump out of MY hospital crate and go home with MOM ... She sat with ME for quite a while and I was very happy about this ... I cried when Mom left ME ... Mom call to check on ME this PM and when I heard the vet talking about me, I cried again ... I am really hoping that I can come home tomorrow at some point ... Paws crossed!
Well, I just wanted to give a quick update ... Thank you to everyone who has left ME messages and offered support ... Mom and I really appreciate it ... Take good care everydoggie and remember NO CORN COBS -- they are nothing but trouble!
Until Next Time Everyone ...
Your Friend,
Putter ...:)

Hi Putter,
Glad to hear your surgery was a success. Your poor Mommy must be besides herself with worry. Hope you're well on your way to a speedy recovery. I'll send the nurses immediately. (Perhaps you'd prefer some male nurses???)
Your pal,
Petey
Oh my Putter, I'm so relived to read that the surgery was a success. I had no clue corn cobs could be so dangerous. I'll make sure I stay away from those from now on. I sure hope they let you go home today. Nothing helps heal you faster than the loving care of your family. I'm sending tons of aire-zen your way, and I'm sure you will have some furry nurses at your new house once you get home. We DWB'ers have to take care of each other. Get well soon!!!!

My grandhuman's dog ate a corn cob once but he threw the whole thing up shortly after. Major ouch!

Oh, Putter, I'm so sorry you had to have surgery for eating the corn cob.
Thanks for the warning; I'll stay away from those things.
I hope you get to go home very soon.
Putter,
We're so glad that your Mom caught things right away so that you are now on the road to recovery. No no no more corn cobs. And your story made our Mom realize she needs to be extra careful when she serves corn on the cob.
We had no idea how damaging it could be. But thank dog, you'll be OK.
Sending you lots of terrier Zen -- the wire foxie kind to go with the Aire kind!!
Take it easy pal,

Hi Putter, we are friends with Asta and she sent us over. Hope you are feeling better after your brush with the dangerous corn cob. We shall have to warn our humans about them, they were actually enjoying grilled corn on the cob just the other day.
Take care ~ Socks, Scylla & Charybdis (The cats)
WOW!! How awful!! Poor Putter!! I feel so bad about what happened to you. That is such a shame. We hope that you are feeling better soon and that you have a full recovery. You certainly don't need this, especially in the summer.
Thanks for posting this about corn cobs. My mom has given me two so for this summer, one each last Saturday and Sunday. I ate the corn off of Saturday's (but not the cob), and since I didn't bother much with Sunday's, she took it off me. After reading about what happened to you, Putter, I am sure that my mom will never give me another corn cob again. Phew!
Did you actually eat the cob? How did you swallow it? Not whole, I hope.
Please get well soon, Putter. We would be heartsick if anything happened to you.
Extra love and Kobuss Kisses,
Koobie
